Emergency Services
Although Smethport is a small town, its area emergency services
are “big town” in scope. The all volunteer Smethport
Fire Department is equipped with efficient apparatus and equipment,
and places high priority on firefighter training.
Smethport based Priority Care Ambulance Service staffs paramedics
for ambulance runs to near-by regional medical centers in Bradford
and Coudersport. They also act as the first responder personnel as
emergency helicopter flights are in route from regional emergency
centers in Pittsburgh, Erie, Buffalo, and Danville.
The newly built 911 Emergency Center is equipped with the latest
communication equipment to coordinate emergency activities in McKean
County. The Sheriff’s Department has its offices in the Courthouse.
Smethport Borough Police has several full time and part time officers
for duty. The department integrates well with other police and fire
activity around the community.
