Lindgren's 5¢ to $1 Store
This business has proudly received the Business of the Year Award from the Smethport Area Chamber of Commerce at its Annual Dinner in April 2005. Harold Lindgren, whose parents started the business in 1940, received the award from the Chamber. He also received a special citation from Representative Martin Causer in behalf of the Pennsylvania House of Representatives
Lindgren’s Variety Store is one of the few “five and dime” stores left in these days of super centers that permeate suburban America.
The unique business offers the shopper a slice of small-town America that no longer exists in the crowded shopping centers located in crowded cities. It is a place where life is a little slower, a lot safer, and much friendlier. Here, the store clerks and the owner call you by name with a hearty greeting as they take the time to chat with you about your family, current events, or the high school football game the night before.
