Smethport Mansion District
One of Smethport’s most notable attractions is its Historic Mansion District. The mansions are primarily located on either side of the tree lined West Main Street, where US Route 6 is located. The Victorian architecture that graces these old homes is a reflection of the wealth that built Smethport during the oil and lumber boom days prior to WWI. Tours of the Mansion District are offered during special festivals in the borough. The Smethport group of the Route 6 Heritage Community is currently formulating plans to develop the district into a formal historic section of the borough. Brochures are being planned to detail the rich history of each mansion, along with electronic media presentations. Way finding signage and individual mansion identification plaques are also being considered in the development planning.
