McKean County Raceway
From mid-May to mid September each Saturday evening the roar of automobile
engines bounces of the hillsides above the Smethport Fair grounds in
east Smethport and echoes across Smethport Borough a mile a way. The
McKean County Raceway is underway. Dirt and dust from the race cars
flying around the dirt oval filter through the raceway lights high
above the track. Cheers from the huge crowd can be heard under the
roar of the racer’s engines. Excitement and thrill add even more
interest to the dusty air.
The raceway is one of the most popular in the region. Racing enthusiasts
drive from miles around to race there, or cheer their favorite driver
on.
